I wear it over my soft shell. I wore it in 12 degree weather with a TKA100 fleece under the soft shell for extra warmth and was comfortable. Ran just a little large.

I purchased this jacket after doing some store research and i'm very happy with the construction of this jacket.

Jackets I looked at : Marmot Zeus Down Vest, North face Nuptse Down vest, REI brand vest and a designer brand that I can't remember.

I chose this bcos

1. The price was right .....the 2008 model was selling for $80
2. The construction was great
a) 650 qualilty down
b) the arm holes have elastic lining and prevent any air draft from entering
c) draw cords at the bottom to prevent air drafts entering from below.
d) poclets lined with soft fleece to give extra warmth.
e) reinforced shoulder area to prevent wear and tear when carrying a back pack.
f) breathable bcos its a vest

3. Its a non North face brand :)

I'm a 6ft 4inch 180 pound guy with a 42 inch chest. I ordered the large and it fits well. Slightly big at the chest but with a layer under neath it should be perfect.

Performance:
Its not yet winter .....but this vest keeps my core super warm even on windy days. I can feel the difference in comfort level between my protected core and unprotected arms which end up freezing.

Recommended for: daily use, work, hikes, skiing. Its between a fleece jacket and a full down jacket.

The Sub Zero Vest is a wonderful jacket. It packs away to pretty much nothing, and is yet so very warm.
The cut of the vest is very good, much more tailored looking than similar other products I have used and doesn't look bulky. Draw straps mean that it can be adjusted in several places and the lack of sleeves makes it perfect for layering as coats fit very comfortably over it.

Highly recommended.
